This week’s tip come from one of our Oak Creek designers. Jenii Kluver knows how to take a barren space and bring it to life.
Jenii gives us an inside look at her process. She explains, “Traditional styles often incorporate symmetry to promote balance and elegance, while eclectic styles tend to be a little more free flowing. Try using both styles in your home; hang two of the same size pictures on either side of a fireplace or entertainment stand, but then put an accent ottoman or bench only on one side. Mix it up with different sizes and shapes to give your space a completely unique look!”
We post thoughtful tips like Jenii’s every week! Check in next Monday for another #DSTipOfTheWeek.
When it comes to design, we often want to to be creative, and… we get a little carried away. Sometimes it’s best to keep it simple.
Get out the notepad and jot down these pointers. That’s right… it’s time for another Decorating Solutions Tip of the Week! This week’s tip comes from Interior Designer Dawn Adamec. Dawn works at our Waukesha store, and helps customers in the area create the homes of their dreams. She has some suggestions when working with kitchen soffits. Soffits are installed just above kitchen cabinets, and bridge the gap between the cabinets and the ceiling above.
Dawn explains, “The key to attractive-looking soffits above kitchen cabinets is repetition. A lot of times people struggle with this one. Instead of using similar items on top of cabinets, they just put any items up there, and they don’t match! It looks haphazard and not put together. Repetition makes it more cohesive and clean. Also, mix up the textures–like a mix of greenery, metal, or glass decor.”
As you see in these pictures from a recent home redesign… less is more! Our designers are hard at work on many more quick and easy design tips for you. Check in next Monday for another #DSTipOfTheWeek.
As we can tell from the arctic temperatures, Winter is still going strong here in the Midwest. Cozy comfort is the style many of us are seeking.
A soft carpet beneath your feet is comforting this time of year, but are you sick of the same old boring carpet? You don’t have the time or money to do a reinstallation? There is a way to make a subtle change without undergoing a complete redesign. It’s time for another Steinhafels #DecoratingSolutions Tip of the Week to give you a burst of motivation!
This week’s comes from Interior Decorator Rhonda Vivoda of our Waukesha Corporate store. Rhonda explains, “It’s okay to use an area rug over carpeting. It anchors the room together, while adding color and texture.”
That’s right. It may seem like a decorating taboo, but it’s OK to put an area rug over carpeting. This is especially true in apartments, where tenants are often stuck with a drab wall to wall carpet. Get a snazzy area rug to add some personality! It can be a textured, patterned, or simple flat woven rug–whatever works best for you space.
We post a different quick and easy decor tip every Monday. Check in next week for another #DSTipOfTheWeek.
If you’re anything like me, the prospect of interior decorating is COMPLETELY overwhelming. From color coordination, to furniture placement, to choosing focal points… it can all leave your head spinning! The great thing about design though is that there are no set rules. There are some general principles, but overall, interior design is based on intuition, personal taste, and creativity.
For those of you who are still feeling uninspired–you are in luck! Steinhafels offers an interior design program called Decorating Solutions. Our designers have years of real-world experience, which they pass on to their clients.
