It’s Spring, which means sunny skies… and time to open those windows and blinds.
Are you torn on whether to use blinds or curtains? How about both!
Designer Jenii Kluver is an interior designer on our “Decorating Solutions” team. She works at our Steinhafels store in Oak Creek. She has some practical advice when it comes to window treatments.
Jenii explains, “Use both blinds and panel curtains for window treatments in rooms that are frequently used. Your blinds will function to give you privacy and block out light, while the curtain panels will simply be decorative. This works especially well for very long sets of windows where it’s difficult to find curtains with a longer width to cover the entire window.”
Not too tough, right? We post a different quick, easy, and practical decor tip each Monday. Check in next week for another #DSTipOfTheWeek.
For this week’s Tip of the Week we go on the scene to our Madison Beltline Store.
That’s where we recently hosted a BRAVA Magazine Night Out called #WineAndDesign. One of the design sessions taught attendees how to mix patterns. Decorating with patterns can be tricky. You don’t want to overdo it, but you also want to highlight your unique style.
Decorating Solutions designers Patti Stindt and Mari Johnson did an interactive “Before and After” demo, demonstrating how you can transform a boring and blah room just by adding a few different patterns and textures.
Patti explains that you don’t want to be matchy-matchy, and Mari says that bringing in different textures is a great way to mix patterns. The ladies do add that you want to stay within the same color tones when you mix patterns… but overall just have fun with it, and don’t be scared to get creative!
You can check out some video of Mari and Patti’s demo HERE.

Most of us love to have the beauty and warmth of natural light in our homes. The one exception might be at 6 a.m. on a lazy Sunday morning in the middle of the summer, when the beaming sun wakes us from a restful slumber. But as we Wisconsinites know all too well, we still have a few months until we have to worry about that.
In the meantime, the sun is a welcome sight during these late winter and early spring months. However, you can’t count on the sun to do all the work. You have to make sure you show your windows some love! Windows are the topic of this week’s Steinhafels #DecoratingSolutions Tip of the Week.
Patti Stindt is an Interior Designer at our Madison Beltline store. Her recommendation to homeowners: Don’t forget about dressing the windows!
Patti says, “No matter what the size of the window or how high the ceilings, a vertical line in your designed space adds interest and warmth. It is also a great way to add color, texture, or introduce another pattern.”
As you see in these pictures, some simple drapes add interest and depth to the room. Our designers are hard at work on many more quick and easy design tips for you. Check in next Monday for another #DSTipOfTheWeek.
