Steinhafels & The Pabst Theater: Showtime!

It’s the big night. The stage is set, the theater crew is working on last minute preps… and the band is relaxing, watching TV, and enjoying some fresh coffee and a home-cooked meal!

The Pabst Theater Group prides itself on making all performers feel at home once they enter the doors of the Pabst Theater, The Riverside, or Turner Hall Ballroom. From an on-site caterer, to personal barista, and an enviable vinyl collection… the Pabst staff does all it can to make sure performers are comfortable before they take the big stage.

This emphasis on hospitality and the comforts of home make Steinhafels a perfect fit as a partner for this Milwaukee institution!

Over the last few months we’ve been working together to redesign the backstage of the Group’s historic Pabst Theater. As you can see it’s a neat space, but needed a little TLC and modern touches.


Steinhafels Decorating Solutions Interior Decorator Anne Sperry was basically given carte blanche to transform the space. The Pabst Theater staff admits it was a little daunting. “It’s always a little scary when you are changing something that is so personal and important to what we do. But it’s also very exciting since we know it will be a better, improved space.”

After the big Delivery Day, and a few finishing touches… check out the “NEW” digs! It still has that casual hangout vibe, but Anne added some color to make it pop, and also included some modern/rustic wood and metal pieces to hold all that vinyl!



Channel 12 and CBS 58 even came by to check it out and talk to Anne!


We love the new space, and so does the Pabst… but don’t take our word for it. Let’s see what the performers think!

The first band to use the space was Wisconsin’s own Horseshoes and Hand Grenades. The band has been playing together for about 6 years, and they always love playing the Pabst theaters. Davey Lynch plays harmonica and accordion. He explains, “The hospitality is absolutely the best.  That’s not just a Milwaukee pride thing either, since I live in Milwaukee.  Of the entire lower 48, Pabst/Riverside/Turner has the best hospitality. That’s not just food and beverage, but the feeling you get with the hospitality and the staff too.”


Lynch and his 4 bandmates spend an average of five hours a day together on a small bus, so he says having a place to call home away from home while touring is very important. “Getting that living room environment is wildly important, especially to feel comfortable before performing too, so it’s nice to have that. Just that good down home feeling, that’s just great.”


We had him try out one of the new leather couches. He was impressed, and had some fun with it! “I definitely notice the leather furniture, absolutely, very comfortable couches… Oh yeah, I did the lay down, the sit down, the half laydown.”

It’s good to see Davey and his buddies making themselves at home! We are so excited to continue our partnership with the Pabst, and help bring a touch of home to the men and women who work so hard to give audiences a great time.

Steinhafels & Pabst Theater: Delivery Day!

There’s nothing more exciting than DELIVERY DAY when it comes to an interior design project.  Delivery day takes on an even greater meaning when you are delivering to a Milwaukee institution… a place with a history dating back 122 years!!


We first told you about our new partnership with the Pabst Theater Group a few weeks ago. The Pabst Theater team approached us a few months ago about a potential partnership.  The ideas started small, but when you get a bunch of creative people in a room the ideas get big fast.  Before you knew it, we were talking about an entire redesign of the Pabst Theater backstage!



The Pabst Team explains, “We believe the partnership is not only a marketing opportunity, but a way to highlight Steinhafels as local business that supports other local organizations.  It’s a way to reach our communities with unique content, and provide an incentive for each of our fans with custom content and information that they may not be aware of otherwise.”


Steinhafels Decorating Solutions Interior designer Anne Sperry is leading the project.  Anne has a theater background, and wanted to help create a comfortable yet trendy space for artists performing at the Pabst. She says this project is very special to her, and close to her heart. “Often talented artists and actors come from stress filled beginnings…they turn to their art for comfort and it’s something they can rely on. I have a mother’s heart for artists and giving them a soft nest to land in for awhile feels blessed on both ends.”


Both the Pabst and Steinhafels teams worked for weeks to make sure DELIVERY DAY would go as smoothly as possible. The warehouse and delivery crews are the unsung heroes of a big delivery like this one.  Without them, the furniture wouldn’t be stocked, loaded, or delivered!!

Managers Kevin Riley and Erik Swamp took the lead on this project.  Kevin admits it was a little daunting. “Deliveries like this are always fun but are usually a challenge because of the unknown.  We try to prepare for every situation, but a delivery like this can be much different than your typical customer home delivery.  Thankfully the theater has a gigantic stage elevator that we were able to use to easily move everything into the lower lounge!  Overall, we enjoy moves like this because we get to see something outside the norm and get to work with some great people.”


Every delivery is important, big or small.  As Kevin points out, “The most important detail when planning a delivery like this is that our customer is happy.  We double check our inventory list and make sure everything has been inspected before we load it onto the truck.”



Erik enjoyed getting to see some of the ‘Behind the Scenes’ media activity.  He adds, “I would say that pace can be a challenge in deliveries like this. When our drivers are out on the road they are trained to move as efficiently as possible to service all of their customers for that day. When working with media teams such as film crews and journalists, it can be challenging to slow things down and make sure everyone is getting what they need, but very rewarding as well.”


Carl Deffenbaugh of Fox 6 and Dan Shafer of the Milwaukee Business Journal graciously took the time to come out and cover the event. Media coverage of something like this is important–to not only let the community know what’s going on, but also show how local businesses and Arts organizations can work together and thrive.



Dirk Stallmann is the Marketing Director at Steinhafels.  He tells the Business Journal, “It’s a lasting project, so it’s a substantial investment on our part. Hopefully it will last a long time, and hopefully it will help keep this theater and this venue as one of the top spots in the country. That’s really the goal. You want to have this experience. All we do is provide props for your life. What we do is really give you the props, and the experiences are up to you.”

When it comes to the actual logistics of the delivery, things couldn’t have gone smoother. As Kevin mentioned, having a gigantic stage elevator didn’t hurt! The crew unloaded the large items from the truck quickly, and Anne brought an array of accessories.  The room quickly transformed from an empty space to a flurry of activity as volunteers and staff worked to unwrap and arrange furniture. It was great to see so many people coming together to help. As Anne says, “Many hands make lite work! Great job by all.”



Anne admits that a designer never truly knows how a space will look until the furniture arrives, but she had a good idea.  She explains why she made the choices she did with the Pabst space. “Shiny and new always look good… but the balance and scale of the new pieces give more free space, and the plants and pop of color in the lime and red just made the space buzz with excitement. The accessories added a little fun as well.”


Everyone else was also impressed!  The Pabst team likes that the ‘Steinhafels Touch’ makes it feel a little more like home. “We want the artist to feel special, providing a space that is comfortable where they do not need to do anything extra. All they have to worry about is picking out which record to listen to. The redesign definitely helps by allowing for more mobility and an improved emphasis on our wide selection of vinyl, and keeping a unique and comfortable atmosphere (and maintaining a few key elements like the Colectivo Coffee barista station and food line).”


As delivery operations managers, Kevin and Erik have seen a lot, but even they were impressed by the results! Kevin exclaims, “The space was really cool.  Our designer turned a boring basement lounge into a hip and comfortable relaxing space.  Hats off to Anne from Kenosha.”


This is not a ‘one and done’ event.  As the Pabst Team explains, this is just the start of an exciting partnership.  “Providing unique content is just one way to maintain the relationship, but in order to take it to the next level there could be connections with specific shows at our venues.   Perhaps include ticket promotions, staff incentives, and again additional marketing exposure–with the ability to highlight the Steinhafels brand related to other events.

Fisher House Partnership Continues With Recent Donation

We are excited to share a recent post by Fisher House Wisconsin!  Check it out HERE.

Steinhafels is proud to continue its partnership with the Fisher House–which provides a home away from home for families that have a loved one receiving treatment at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center.


Last December, we presented Fisher House Wisconsin with a check for $75,000. The donation was made possible through proceeds from our Veterans’ Day Sale.


These types of donations wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of our sales, customer service, warehouse, and corporate staffs.  Thanks to you, we are able to provide our customers with a top-notch sales experience AND make an impact in our community.

DS Tip Of The Week: Knocking it Outta the Park with Youth Bedrooms!

Baseball season is just around the corner.  Want to knock it outta the park when it comes to your youngster’s oasis?

This week’s #DecoratingSolutions Tip of the Week comes from one of our Menomonee Falls designers. Beth Kealy has a knack for helping families transform their homes during all life stages. Are you looking to refresh your child’s room, but don’t want to spend thousands on new furniture?

Pictured below are some very fun youth bedrooms using bold colors, frames on a painted wall, unconventional headboard ideas, played up fairy princess designs, decorative lighting, and more.

Beth explains, “These ideas pictured do not have to cost much, but can have a positive impact on your youngster’s place of fun and rest. Don’t be afraid to be creative and work with colors and themes that your child likes and has interest in. Make them part of the creative revamp of their space. They will have more pride in the space and a sense of ownership, and will likely keep it more tidy if they helped in their space’s creation.  Make sure there’s sufficient storage for needed items in the space.”

Behind the Scenes: Delafield Hotel Shoot

We love to feature the work of our talented designers.  This week in, you may have noticed a Sponsored Content article about Patti Stindt’s recent LARGE-scale redesign… The Delafield Hotel!


It’s interesting to learn a little more about the project from the designer’s perspective.  In addition to designing the space, Patti also had to be a “project manager” of sorts. Think of yourself as the project manager any time you undergo a design project, no matter how big or small. It’s important to have everything tediously planned, so you avoid snafus during the actual project.


We also got to see our photo team–Sarah, Austin, and Ryan–hard at work!  It takes some intricate lighting and perfect camera shots to get the “Before and After” images you see on our Decorating Solutions WEBPAGE.

Meet Our New Guest Bloggers!

Here at Steinhafels, we love being a part of the blogosphere–sharing various design tips, furniture stories, and other fun and interesting posts with our readers.  We hope you enjoy reading them as much as we enjoy posting them!

However, we know it’s nice to hear a different voice sometimes.  We recently decided to join forces with some local design bloggers–to build new partnerships, and reach new readers who aren’t as familiar with us yet.

Meet “Mommy in Milwaukee” (aka Keila) and “Green With Decor” (aka Meg)!  You may already follow their blogs and social media posts.  Both women are very active in the Blogosphere, and we are so excited to be working with each of them.

Keila is a mother of three, with a background in the medical field.  You may have caught her first blog with us around the holidays.  You can read it HERE.


Keila is passionate about fashion for the busy momma, family, raising bilingual babies, and design.  Keila came to our Corporate store in December with all three children in tow, and did an awesome job picking a bench and some accessories to go along with her holiday table setting.  We can’t wait to work more with Keila, and see those cute kiddos in the store again!



Meg has a background in Public Relations, and started her blog in 2015.  She and her husband have already completed two major home renovations–one in Cincinnati, and in Milwaukee, where they live now.  Meg loves the color green, and wanted to somehow include “green” in her blog name.  Her husband came up with “Green With Decor,” and the rest is history!  Meg came to our store just last week and picked up a couple nightstands for her blog, which is fresh off the presses right HERE.  We love how Meg tries to incorporate the color green in all of her posts!




We wanted to ask each woman a little bit about why she blogs, and why she’s excited to work with Steinhafels.  Here’s what they each had to say:

-Why do you like to blog, and what got you started?

Keila:  I enjoy blogging because it’s a fun way to stay creative! I also believe it’s a great way to share our voices for advocacy for support for our local community and beyond. I started blogging after I decided to stay at home with our oldest son, Gabriel. It quickly became a creative outlet for me and I’m so glad I started!

Meg:  I’ve always loved writing and interior design, and blogging is the perfect mix of the two. Even as a kid, I enjoyed going to open houses to see the layouts of different spaces and how others decorated. My husband Kalen and I have renovated two houses, and after discovering that others were blogging about their home projects, I decided to start a blog of my own. It’s been such a fun journey so far!

-What’s the number one key to creating posts that readers will care about?

Keila:  I think the number one key is to be yourself. I know it’s something we hear about often but I truly believe that being genuine makes a difference.

Meg:  I love to share decorating ideas and DIY projects that inspire readers to take on their own project. Whether it’s how to renovate a space to use it better, tips for picking out flooring or furniture pieces, or how to turn an old thrift store frame into something pretty, it’s fun to share ideas that readers can use to transform their home. Pretty pictures of our finished projects are always key, too!

-Why are you excited for this new partnership with Steinhafels?

Keila:  I love being able to partner with amazing companies like Steinhafels, that not only carry great products, but are also at the forefront of community outreach.

Meg:  I grew up with my parents buying pieces from Steinhafels and have always liked the wide variety of furniture Steinhafels offers. It’s fun for me to partner with brands I believe in and would share with my readers anyway, even more so when the brand is local. I’m excited to partner with Steinhafels to share gorgeous furniture options with my readers and inspire them to keep decorating their homes.

We are so excited to see what Keila and Meg come up with in the months ahead!  We will continue to explore practical ways that everyone–young professionals, first-time homeowners, renters, moms, dads, etc. can apply design tips to their own homes.

DS Tip Of The Week: It’s All A Balancing Scale

As you get set to redecorate your living room or bedroom, you are likely focused on the sofa, the bed, and other large statement items.  We’re here to remind you–all pieces work together to create balance in a room!!

This week’s Decorating Solutions Tip of the Week comes from one of our newer designers.  Samantha Price works out of our Oak Creek store.  She says it’s important to select the right furniture to fit your space.

She goes on to explain, “Our clients sometimes do not realize that furniture also carries a visual weight that needs to be balanced. Even when the pieces selected fit to scale in a room–if  everything picked is visually heavy, it can still result in an over-crowded, cluttered, and uninviting room. On the other hand though, if everything is of lighter weight, it can lack definition, contrast, and interest and will feel as though everything is just floating about the room. Balance is KEY and an important aspect to work through in a design.”

Lessons Learned in Riverwest Helped Steinhafels Grow

Steinhafels is proud to have its roots firmly planted in the Milwaukee area.  But did you know some of the company’s core values were first established in one of the city’s most eclectic and historic neighborhoods?

Today, Riverwest is known for its trendy shops, restaurants, and bars.  However, the neighborhood boasts a rich history of generations of families growing up in its homes, local parishes and corner stores, and lively parks for children to play.

As you’ll see in the article below… the neighborhood also helped bestow on John E. Steinhafel some of the core values the company continues to cherish today.

Behind the Scenes: Salvation Army’s “Toy Shop”

Steinhafels has been partnering with the Salvation Army for years to help collect donations for the organization’s annual “Toy Shop” holiday toy distribution event.  CBS 58 has also come onboard, and it’s been a great way for all of our organizations to band together to help kids in Milwaukee’s inner city have new toys for the holidays.


We got the chance to actually walk through the Toy Shop at the Salvation Army’s Distribution Center on N. 60th Street in Milwaukee.  We got a behind the scenes look at what it’s like for local parents to walk through and pick out some truly awesome toys!


The toy shop is a well-oiled machine:  “Sorters” organize the toys that come in, “Stockers” man the toy stations and keep them overflowing with items throughout the event, and personal “Shoppers” actually walk around with the parents and help them pick the best toys for their kids.



The event runs three days:  Friday 12/16, Monday 12/19, and Tuesday 12/20.  Over the course of three days, about 3,000 families will walk through, getting toys for about 9,000 kids!!  Of course, this doesn’t happen without a massive staff of dedicated volunteers.  About 1,100 volunteers will work the event.  If you are interested, they are still seeking volunteers for the Tuesday morning shift.  You can find more information ONLINE.


This was Berenice Aguayo’s first time at the Toy Shop.  She has three kids ages 6, 5, and 2.  She couldn’t believe the great selection at the Shop.  A little something for all kids.  She said, “My kids like everything.  My boy likes mathematics, and my little girl likes anything with bright colors.”


Linda Chaplin was Berenice’s personal shopper.  This was her first time volunteering at the Shop.  The local mom explains, “I think it’s always good to step out of your comfort zone and help others.  The more you step out of your comfort zone and help others, the smaller your problems seem.”


And the shopping experience wouldn’t be complete without dedicated Stockers like Ann Michaels.  This is her second year working the Toy Shop.  She learned about it through work, and says she’ll definitely do it again next year.  “It is fun.  It’s really great to see the faces of everybody, and the toys they get for their children.”


Isn’t that truly what the holidays are all about?  While it’s great to receive gifts–it’s the smiles on kids’ faces and people giving of their time to help others that exemplifies the reason for the season.  Thank you so much to all of our Steinhafels shoppers who have donated toys and coats over the past few weeks, and all of our employees who make sure these various outreach projects go smoothly.
