Are you the type of person who likes to stand out in a crowd, or blend in? Even if you are a little shy or timid, it doesn’t hurt to stand out a little bit–even in a subtle way. This idea can even translate to your design style.
Get out the notepad and jot down this helpful hint! That’s right… it’s time for another Steinhafels Decorating Solutions Tip of the Week. This week’s tip comes from Interior Designer Samantha Price. Samantha works at our Oak Creek store, and helps customers across the Milwaukee area create the homes of their dreams.
Samantha points out that most people use their main furniture pieces–sofa, chairs, table, etc. as a guide when picking out the paint color for a room. When doing this, don’t be afraid to go a few shades lighter or darker than the main furniture pieces. She explains, “This will help the pieces be more visible, and stand out in the room. You spent a lot of time and money picking out the right sofa, don’t be afraid to showcase it!
A common mistake people make is painting the walls too close of a color to the sofa, making the sofa blend in and not stand out. Samantha adds, “If you’re feeling really bold, pick a color in the accent pillows for an even stronger contrast! This will also help give the room dimension, which is another design tip to help keep the eye moving, by providing visual interest.”

When it comes to interior design, many of us don’t want to push the envelope. We may think decorating with neutrals is the “safe” way to go, but the truth is, you can have BIG and BOLD style, all while decorating with neutrals and naturals! Our Steinhafels #DecoratingSolutions Tip of the Week asks you to think about neutrals in a new way.
This week’s tip comes from Appleton Interior Decorator Julie Kanugh. Julie says, “Don’t be afraid to go BIG. Neutral doesn’t need to be boring. You can make a neutral room interesting with patterns, textures, and materials. For example, leather is a natural and practical choice, and can have interesting textures. In addition, distressed or reclaimed wood adds texture and style, along with being family friendly (scratches on the coffee table won’t matter)!”
Julie adds, don’t forget to protect your purchase with Guardsman! We post a quick and easy decor tip every Monday. Check in next week for another #DSTipOfTheWeek.

Are you getting ready to tackle a new design project? Are you the type who likes to play it “safe”?
Well, we’re here to tell you it’s OK to be bold, and take some chances. Don’t be afraid of color or pattern!!
Get out the notepad and jot down these pointers. That’s right… it’s time for another Decorating Solutions Tip of the Week! This week’s tip comes from Interior Designer Samantha Price. Samantha is a new member of the Decorating Solutions team, and we are excited to have her working out of our beautiful store off I-94 in Oak Creek.
Have fun and be bold, but don’t forget–a little bit goes a long way! Samantha explains, “A bold chair, an accent wall, or even some wild accent pillows can make a dramatic statement in a room. If color and pattern just aren’t your thing, don’t forget about texture. Different textures in a neutral room is a great way to create interest! Creating interest is what gives a room its character, and it’s an important element in creating a beautiful space.”

Creating the home of your dreams can be overwhelming. We often put most of our focus on common areas like the living room, dining room, and kitchen… but don’t overlook the bathroom. That’s right–the bathroom! Don’t be afraid to have some fun and give your bathroom a bold new look.
This week’s Decorating Solutions Tip of the Week focuses on that little room we all use, but don’t always think about at design time. It comes from interior designer Beth Kealy, who works with the fine customers at our Menomonee Falls store.
When it comes to bathrooms, Beth suggests, “Ditch the wallpaper and create a bold look with a wide stripe paint application. Update a cozy bathroom into a fun new look that is not concerned with humidity.”
We know humidity can be a concern during these wet, hot Wisconsin summers! Our designers are hard at work on many more quick and easy design tips for you. Check in next Monday for another #DSTipOfTheWeek.
