Sometimes design has very little to do with the big-ticket items, and more to do with the accessories. One of the most important accessories in a room is a lamp. The way light can alter the look of a room, or bring out the colors of paint or furniture truly is remarkable…all with the flip of a switch!
Get out the notepad and jot down this helpful hint. That’s right… it’s time for another Decorating Solutions Tip of the Week! This week’s tip comes from Interior Designer Colleen Rome. Colleen works at our Greenfield store, and helps customers across Milwaukee create the homes of their dreams.
As Colleen suggests, you can create patterns and colors simply with Tiffany lighting. She goes on to explain, “Tiffany lighting can add nice warm ambiance to the room, and you can use them with other types of lighting to create a certain feeling for a nice dinner or special occasion. Best of all–they never go out of style! They can be used in all different settings from transitional to traditional.”
As you see in the pictures, the colors of the lamp truly bring a sophisticated and artistic look to the room–while still remaining casual. Our designers are hard at work on many more quick and easy design tips for you. Check in next Monday for another #DSTipOfTheWeek.
When it comes to interior design, sometimes it’s best to go the unconventional route.
For example–the coffee table. It’s been a living room staple for years. But who just sits around and sips coffee or tea anymore?
That brings us to this week’s #DecoratingSolutions Tip of the Week. It comes from Waukesha Interior Decorator Rhonda Vivoda.
Rhonda’s words of wisdom: “Instead of a coffee table use a big ottoman or a couple smaller ottomans. Ottomans are great because they can act as additional seating, footrests, or you can put trays on top and still use them as coffee tables. Sometimes an ottoman can be a storage unit as well!”
So put your feet up and relax, or sip your tea from a tray. The all-purpose ottoman is ready for you! We post a quick and easy decor tip each Monday. Check in next week for another #DSTipOfTheWeek.
Are you looking to give your space a new look, but don’t know where to start? Redoing a room can seem like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be… if you look at it as a step by step process.
Designer Katie Ryan is an interior decorator on our Decorating Solutions team. She works at our Steinhafels store in Menomonee Falls. Katie says it’s all about keeping it simple, and only tackling one step at a time.
She suggests, “Work with staple pieces that have neutral base colors and can be versatile in different accent color schemes. This example shows a blank boring room with a couch and recliner. Start building around these pieces… incorporate an area rug (for a pop of color or pattern), side tables, lamps, and storage ottomans. Storage ottomans are a great way to add color or pattern to a room, but can also be used for seating. Next: Window treatments! You don’t have to spend a lot of money to make a statement with a pop of color or pattern on drapes, which can also coordinate with your accessories. Here we have shades of blue–a very popular color right now. Lastly, accessories: Adding pillows, a throw blanket, and trays for the ottomans.”
That’s the basic timeline for redesigning a room! Not too tough right? We post a different quick, easy, and practical decor tip each Monday. Check in next week for another #DSTipOfTheWeek.
We all strive to keep a clean and neat home because we take pride in our living space. Even more, keeping things tidy is also a way to give your home a truly designer look–without having to go out and buy tons of new furniture and accessories!
Get out the notepad and jot down this helpful hint. That’s right… it’s time for another Steinhafels Decorating Solutions Tip of the Week! This week’s tip comes from Interior Designer Jenii Kluver. Jenii works at our Oak Creek store, and helps customers in the southeast section of Milwaukee create the homes of their dreams.
Jenii’s tip is pretty simple: “Removing clutter from surfaces in your home will truly give it that designer look. Stick to a few accessory pieces on each surface, and keep things off of the floor for a clean and minimal look.”

Are you looking to rearrange your room, but are worried you’ll be stuck with a layout you’ll be sick of in a few weeks… or a layout that looks nice, but isn’t functional?
This week’s Decorating Solutions Tip Of The Week is a little different than most. Instead of just one simple tip, our designer is sharing some of her step by step, insider knowledge from a recent project!
Lori Green is an interior designer at our Greenfield store. She explains, “I have one of my client’s photos of the room before doing a remodel. I suggested he take out the bookshelves by his fireplace in order to make his room look larger and brighter. We put in new flooring, kitchen counters, and lighting. We selected everything together, from the flooring to the furniture, and the balance of the space is beautiful because the colors all tie together. You can see how the fireplace is so beautifully framed with the tables, lamps, and the rug tying the pieces together, along with the leather and counter stools. The colorful lighting fixture and accessories are also very pleasing to the eye. Keep in mind it’s not always easy to have a room look attractive when working around a television.”
Even if these steps don’t directly apply to your project, hopefully this post gives you some insight into what will work best for you! If you need any help, feel free to call your local Steinhafels or stop in–one of our designers would love to help you out.

As we can tell from the arctic temperatures, Winter is still going strong here in the Midwest. Cozy comfort is the style many of us are seeking.
A soft carpet beneath your feet is comforting this time of year, but are you sick of the same old boring carpet? You don’t have the time or money to do a reinstallation? There is a way to make a subtle change without undergoing a complete redesign. It’s time for another Steinhafels #DecoratingSolutions Tip of the Week to give you a burst of motivation!
This week’s comes from Interior Decorator Rhonda Vivoda of our Waukesha Corporate store. Rhonda explains, “It’s okay to use an area rug over carpeting. It anchors the room together, while adding color and texture.”
That’s right. It may seem like a decorating taboo, but it’s OK to put an area rug over carpeting. This is especially true in apartments, where tenants are often stuck with a drab wall to wall carpet. Get a snazzy area rug to add some personality! It can be a textured, patterned, or simple flat woven rug–whatever works best for you space.

You may think of an ottoman simply as a boring, cumbersome storage unit in your living room, family room, or game room. If you do, you are greatly underestimating the power of your awesome ottoman!!
Here’s a tip from Interior Designer Aaron Keller. Aaron works in our Menomonee Falls store.
“Ottomans are a great way to pop up the center of a room. An ottoman has multiple functions: Put your feet up to watch TV, take a seat and relax, or put a tray on it and use it as a coffee table. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, with fabric or leather options.”
