When it comes to interior design, many of us don’t want to push the envelope. We may think decorating with neutrals is the “safe” way to go, but the truth is, you can have BIG and BOLD style, all while decorating with neutrals and naturals! Our Steinhafels #DecoratingSolutions Tip of the Week asks you to think about neutrals in a new way.
This week’s tip comes from Appleton Interior Decorator Julie Kanugh. Julie says, “Don’t be afraid to go BIG. Neutral doesn’t need to be boring. You can make a neutral room interesting with patterns, textures, and materials. For example, leather is a natural and practical choice, and can have interesting textures. In addition, distressed or reclaimed wood adds texture and style, along with being family friendly (scratches on the coffee table won’t matter)!”
Julie adds, don’t forget to protect your purchase with Guardsman! We post a quick and easy decor tip every Monday. Check in next week for another #DSTipOfTheWeek.

It’s Monday, and you’re probably feeling tired and a little uninspired. Well, here’s your Steinhafels #DecoratingSolutions Tip of the Week to give you a burst of motivation.
Need a change in your home decor, but don’t feel like spending hundreds of dollars? We have a simple tip for you. Think small… and soft!
It comes from Lori Green, an interior decorator based at our Greenfield store. Lori explains, “I use accent pillows to change a room at such reasonable costs. I change up the rug and the window treatments, also at a minimal expense, and I have different seasonal items to enjoy a new fresh look. The freedom one has when working with a neutral linen palette for their upholstery is endless! I love changing things up– especially pillows.”
See…simple as that. May as well hang on to your festive winter decor for a few more weeks, before you switch to your Spring Pillows!
We post a new, quick and easy decor tip each and every Monday. Check in next week for another #DSTipOfTheWeek.
Are you looking to give your space a new look, but don’t know where to start? Redoing a room can seem like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be… if you look at it as a step by step process.
Designer Katie Ryan is an interior decorator on our Decorating Solutions team. She works at our Steinhafels store in Menomonee Falls. Katie says it’s all about keeping it simple, and only tackling one step at a time.
She suggests, “Work with staple pieces that have neutral base colors and can be versatile in different accent color schemes. This example shows a blank boring room with a couch and recliner. Start building around these pieces… incorporate an area rug (for a pop of color or pattern), side tables, lamps, and storage ottomans. Storage ottomans are a great way to add color or pattern to a room, but can also be used for seating. Next: Window treatments! You don’t have to spend a lot of money to make a statement with a pop of color or pattern on drapes, which can also coordinate with your accessories. Here we have shades of blue–a very popular color right now. Lastly, accessories: Adding pillows, a throw blanket, and trays for the ottomans.”
That’s the basic timeline for redesigning a room! Not too tough right? We post a different quick, easy, and practical decor tip each Monday. Check in next week for another #DSTipOfTheWeek.
