It’s time for another Decorating Solutions Tip of the Week! This week we are talking about cleaning up and sprucing up the house after the holidays.
Devin Bagdassian is pretty new to our interior design program, and works out of our Waukesha store. She has her Bachelor’s degree in Retail Merchandising and Management from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, and has years of experience in textiles–from corporate level, to store level, to design. We’re excited to have her onboard!
Devin explains, “Now that the holidays are over and everybody is taking down Christmas items, the house might seem bare. This is a great time to de-clutter and lighten up the decor. Keep rooms simple, clean, fresh and bring in the calm tone on tone palette. You can add bursts of color to warm the space up through accessories. Accessories are a great way to create a whole new look for a room–they add layers to a space through textures and color. Items like pillows, throws, art, baskets, and flowers all create a visual harmony in a room.”
These are a couple pics from Devin’s home. Lovely and simple–thanks Devin.
Tune in next week for another #DSTipOfTheWeek.
Tis the season–a Decorating Solutions Tip Of The Week with a holiday flare! We’re talking Mongolian Fur, which is very on-trend this season. Adding color and texture can be as easy as adding some simple accent pillows.
Interior Designer Patti Stindt is doing the heavy lifting this week. Patti is based at our new Steinhafels on High Crossing Boulevard on Madison’s east side.
Patti suggests, “Use a variety of different sizes and color, or go monochromatic. No matter what style you are, Mongolian Fur can make a space super chic by adding in the cream pillows with a modern lined sofa.”
Patti adds, “You could also go casual cozy with a tufted leather sofa and a variety of the pillows. It’s all about layering in the textures. We can also create a very upscale, luxurious feel with chenille fabric, and the mixture of the fur. It will give it an edgy feel. I would even introduce a nice textured throw to coordinate.”
Have fun and get warm and cozy with Mongolian fur! Check in next Monday for another #DSTipOfTheWeek.
Well Fall, it’s been nice knowing you, but according to weather reports we could be seeing our first flurries this week. That means it’s time to bring out all those throws you’ve been storing for the summer, and cuddle up on the couch with a good book or Netflix, your dog or cat, and a glass of wine.
Just because you are cozy doesn’t mean you have to be sloppy. You can snuggle in style! That’s right.. the cold weather offers a whole array of style options, including faux fur.
That brings us to this week’s #DecoratingSolutions Tip of the Week, from none other than one of our Menomonee Falls-based interior design gurus–Aaron Keller!
Aaron explains, “Faux fur can add a unique and elegant texture to any room. Don’t be afraid to have fun and experiment with faux fur pillows or rugs. These are examples of faux fur in homes I completed for clients. Remember as with any throw blanket it should not be folded, but rather tastefully draped on furniture.”
So go ahead.. drape that throw blanket wherever you like. Like Aaron said, have fun with it! We post a quick and easy decor tip each Monday. Check in next week for another #DSTipOfTheWeek.
Home design is not only a visual experience. It’s also very experiential, and hands-on. Creating designs with texture is a way to truly bring out the FEEL of a room!
This week’s #DSTipOfTheWeek comes from designer Rhonda Vivoda, who is based in our Corporate store in Waukesha. Rhonda likes to bring her designs to life with rich textures.
Here are her Top Three Ways to add Texture to a design project
*Use an area rug over carpeting. It anchors the room, along with adding color and texture.
*Throw Pillows. These are an inexpensive way to change the look and feel of a room. They add pops of color and different textures.
*Gorgeous Greenery. Real or artificial always adds softness to a room and can add a different texture.
Our Decorating Solutions designers are burning the midnight oil coming up with many more quick and easy design tips for you. Check in next Monday for another #DSTipOfTheWeek.
